Day-by-Day Itinerary

Welcome at Kilimanjaro International Airport. Private transfer to your Arusha hotel where your expert migration guide joins you for a detailed briefing - current location of the herds, likelihood of river crossings, gear and camera advice. Dinner at a renowned garden restaurant. Overnight at a boutique coffee lodge just outside town.

After breakfast, drive up through the Ngorongoro Highlands with a photo stop at the crater viewpoint, then onto the rolling Serengeti grasslands (approx. 7 hours with stops and game viewing). Enter via Naabi Hill Gate - the pace slows as wildlife fills the horizon with giraffe, topi and zebra. Arrive at your mobile tented camp positioned close to the current herd location. Dinner around the campfire, first Serengeti night under the stars.

Full day tracking the migration. Depending on the season the herds are in the south (Jan-Mar), central (Apr-May), west (Jun-Jul) or north (Aug-Oct). Your guide plans each route based on radio reports from other drivers. Expect dense concentrations of zebra and wildebeest, predator interactions and spectacular skies. Picnic breakfast in the bush, lunch back at camp with a midday siesta, then a second drive until sunset.

Leave camp at dawn with full provisions for an all-day drive following the herds. During calving season (Feb) witness thousands of newborn wildebeest taking their first steps while cheetah and lion patrol the edges. In the dry season, position near the Grumeti or Mara rivers for the iconic crossings - dramatic, chaotic and unforgettable. Sundowner drinks in the bush, return to camp for a well-deserved dinner.

If needed, we relocate to stay close to the action - for example from central Serengeti north to the Mara River or south to Ndutu. Half-day drive en route with continuous game viewing. Check in at your next luxury tented camp, positioned to maximize sightings. Afternoon game drive in the new area. Dinner around the campfire with stories of the day's sightings.

Another full day in the heart of the migration. Options include a sunrise hot-air balloon safari (recommended, extra cost) finishing with a champagne bush breakfast on the plains. In the afternoon, visit a river-crossing lookout or spend quality time at a lion pride on a fresh kill. Farewell bush dinner tonight - drums, a bonfire, champagne and stars - hosted by the camp team.

Final morning game drive with packed breakfast. Transfer to the nearest bush airstrip (Kogatende, Seronera or Kusini depending on your final camp location) for a scenic light-aircraft flight back to Arusha or directly to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward international connection.

Best Time to Visit

Plan around peak wildlife, weather and price windows.

Peak season Shoulder / good Off-season

Long Dry Season

Peak
June – October

Peak game viewing. Animals concentrate around waterholes; thinning vegetation makes spotting easy. The iconic Mara River crossings of the Great Migration occur Jul – Sep.

Calving Season

Peak
January – February

The Great Migration calves in southern Serengeti / Ndutu. Dramatic predator action and excellent weather with surprisingly low crowds.

Short Rains

Good
November – December

Brief afternoon showers, lush green landscapes and excellent birding as migrants arrive. Migration herds move south. Lower-season pricing.

Long Rains

Avoid
March – May

Heavy rainfall, muddy roads, some lodges close. Beautiful green scenery and dramatic skies, but the most challenging time for safaris. Lowest prices.
